Canadian Police Officer Fatally Shot During Call of Car in Ditch

Ontario Provincial Police Constable Grzegorz Pierzchala—who was in his first year as an officer—was shot and killed while responding to a report of a car that ran off the road near Hagersville.
A Canadian police officer was fatally shot during a call involving a car that had run off the road Tuesday.
Ontario Provincial Police Constable Grzegorz Pierzchala responded to a report of a vehicle in a ditch shortly after 2:30 p.m. near Hagersville, Ontario, the CBC reports. No details were released concerning what led to the shooting, which happened in an area that is home Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and next to Six Nations of the Grand River.
Pierzchala, 28, was rushed to the hospital, where he died from his injuries. He was in his first year as a provisional police officer.
"Greg was a phenomenal officer, great guy, great community member," said Sgt. Ed Sanchuk.
"He's going to be truly missed by everybody," he added.
A man and woman who were seen leaving the scene of the shooting were taken into custody. No other information was released about the suspects or how they were apprehended.
